Frequently Asked Questions
What is Broncos Read?
Broncos Read is a project started by the University Library. Each year, the Library will create four posters featuring a student, a student team or club, a faculty member, and a staff member who enrich the university through their contributions in teaching, research, artistic expression, and other forms of scholarship. Honorees will be photographed with their favorite book, newspaper, or other reading materials along with a quote about what their choice means to them. The posters will be unveiled around National Library Week in April at a reception for all the honorees. Copies of the posters will be on display for one year in the library and in the Broncos Read online gallery.
Who can nominate?
All current students, staff, faculty and alumni can nominate SCU members that they believe have contributed to the University. In 250 words or less, tell us why we should honor your nominee in a Broncos Read poster. Be sure to explain any work or projects the nominee is involved with that furthers the University's mission and/or how the nominee embodies Conscience, Competence, and Compassion-and loves to read. There is no limit on the number of nominations an individual can make.
Submit nominations on the Broncos Read website, or use the submission boxes at the Learning Commons Help Desk in the library. This year nominations will be accepted until February 17, 2015.
Who is eligible for nomination?
Any current student, student groups or teams (such as athletic teams), staff, and faculty members can be nominated to be featured in a Broncos Read poster. Student groups and teams may nominate themselves and explain how they contribute to SCU.
I don't think anyone else can do a better job representing what I've contributed to SCU. Can I nominate myself?
Self-nominations are only accepted for student groups or teams. If you wish to be considered as an honoree, you can ask a friend or colleague to nominate you.
When will the honorees be announced?
After the nomination period, the Broncos Read Committee will select from the submissions a student, student group, faculty member, and staff that best represents the spirit of SCU and Broncos Read. They will have their pictures taken for their posters, which will be unveiled in April or May at a special Broncos Read reception. (Date to be announced soon)
What is National Library Week?
National Library Week is an annual celebration of the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians, typically celebrated the second week in April. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate. Libraries often take the week as an opportunity to raise awareness about their services and how they enrich their communities. Learn more at the ALA website.
Who is on the Broncos Read Committee?
We are SCU volunteers who serve on a rotating basis. The Broncos Read 2015 committee members are: Marc Ramos (Library), Kelly De Leon-Lopez (Library), and Elizabeth McKeigue (Library). A faculty member and a student are also added to the Committee every year to help select the winning nominations. If you're interested in learning more or being involved in the Broncos Read project in the future, you can contact any of the members.
