New Trustees Join Board at Santa Clara University

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 25, 2011—Four new members were elected to Santa Clara University’s Board of Trustees.
Boitano, Santarosa, and Sobrato earned degrees at Santa Clara.
Patricia Boitano ’71 has been a member of the Board of Regents at Santa Clara University since 2005 and has also served as an SCU Ambassador since 2003. Boitano currently serves on the Board of Directors for Girls Inc. of the Central Coast, an affiliate of the national organization Girls Inc., which delivers a variety of programs focusing on leadership and self-empowerment to girls ages eight to 18 at schools throughout Monterey County. Boitano also has been a member of and has served on the Board of Directors of the Junior League of Monterey County. The Junior League is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, civic improvement, and leadership potential among women.
William (Bill) Coleman
Bill Coleman is a Partner at Alsop Louie Partners, a venture capital company. Previously, he was the founder, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Cassatt Corporation, an enterprise software and services company acquired by CA in 2009. He also founded and was the first chairman and CEO of BEA Systems, the world’s leading infrastructure software company. Before BEA, he served as vice president of system software at Sun Microsystems, where his team transformed SunOS into the commercially successful Solaris operating system. He began his career in the U.S. Air Force where he served as chief of satellite operations in the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force.
Scott Santarosa, S.J.
Scott Santarosa, S.J., ’88, is the pastor at Dolores Mission parish, a small but vibrant Jesuit parish in the lowest income section of Boyle Heights in Los Angeles. He was ordained to the priesthood in May of 2000, and his first full-time assignment as a priest was at Verbum Dei High School in Watts, Los Angeles. His and the other Jesuits’ mission was to help bring the failing high school back to its former reputation as a quality, inner-city Catholic college preparatory. Finishing five years there, Santarosa then went onto a year-long program called tertianship, which took him east to Boston and even farther east to Nigeria.
John M. Sobrato
John M. Sobrato ’83 is the third generation to be involved with the family-owned firm where he has worked since his teens. As CEO, he has primary responsibility for the strategic direction of the firm's portfolio of over 15 million square feet of commercial and residential income properties as well as the company's investments in global marketable securities. Sobrato is also very involved in the local community and is concurrently serving as Chair of the Board of Regents of Santa Clara University, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, and Chair of the Board of Trustees of Bellarmine College Preparatory. He has also served as past chair or past president of KTEH Public Television, Catholic Charities of San Jose, the San Jose Repertory Theater, Charities Housing Development Corporation and the Board of Fellows of Santa Clara University.
