New SCU director of marketing, Susan C. Shea, directs expanded role for marketing and communications

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 16, 2000 -Susan C. Shea, the new director of marketing at Santa Clara University, supervises a redefined marketing and communications function at the 150-year old university in the heart of Silicon Valley.

Shea reports directly to SCU President Paul Locatelli, S.J., and is a member of his Cabinet.

Locatelli, in introducing Shea to the campus, said, "In her capacity as the University's chief communication officer, Susan can help us carry out our mission and strategic plan through an integrated marketing program that presents Santa Clara and its distinctive strengths to our most important audiences.

"She provides leadership, counsel, and support for University endeavors, special projects and ongoing programs throughout the campus."

The University's media relations, publications, photography, design, and editorial services staff reports to Shea.

The new director, who began Aug.1, is coordinating marketing efforts for the SCU 150th anniversary celebrations in 2000-01.

Shea is the former principal of Susan Shea Associates, Sausalito, Calif., a marketing and communications practice. Her clients included the University of California, San Francisco State University, Arizona State University, UCSF Stanford Health Care, and Ferris State University (Mich.).

An honors graduate of Queens College, City University of New York, she also has held senior communications or development positions at Dominican College of San Rafael, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Mills College.
