From Ignatius to Immigration, Devotion to Diversity: Hundreds of Jesuit H.S. Educators to Meet at Santa Clara University June 21- 25

Tuesday, Jun. 15, 2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 15, 2010 —More than 500 Jesuit high-school educators from the Jesuit Secondary Education Association (JSEA) will convene at Santa Clara University June 21 to June 25 to share tips, develop best practices, and attend workshops covering all aspects of Ignatian education.

The group is meeting for its triennial Colloquium on Ignatian Education, which gathers educators to focus on pertinent current issues in Jesuit secondary education. A key component of the meeting will be the Ignatian Educators Fair, where more than 100 educators present topics of interest.

Leaders from Jesuit high schools nationwide will conduct more than 200 timely workshops, covering topics such as spirituality, mission, leadership, technology with learning, diversity, free speech, death in the school community, and service learning.

The theme of this year’s colloquium is “Jesuit Mission - Sent to the Frontiers.” The workshops are designed to be lively and informative. Some of the titles include:

"Our Fourth First Year: Being Intentionally Ignatian at a New School"

"Using Video to be a Virtual Substitute Teacher"

"Roller Coasters and Calculus -- Something to Study After the AP Calculus AB Exam"

"Can We Talk About This Stuff? Utilizing Uncomfortable Material in the Classroom"

"Cura Personalis and Social Media: Facilitating Relationships Through Social Media"

More information on the event can be found at JSEA's website.
