Dear Colleagues —
Like many across campus, the Career Center was busy all July participating in new student orientation. It seemed we were everywhere at once: presenting to students, presenting to parents, tabling at the resource fair and mingling at the parent reception!
Throughout, more than 500 parents participated in our survey. While the results are unlikely to be surprising to you, we thought it would be fun to share nevertheless!
"Self-Development - Continuously seek opportunities for growth" emerged as the most important career readiness competency.

"Helping Students Create an Internship/Job Search Strategy" emerged as the most important Career Center service.

As always, I look forward to working together to deliver on the promise of higher education for all of our students: a good job, social capital, and economic mobility in pursuit of a more humane, just and sustainable world.

Congratulations and Farewell to Amanuel Bizuneh
It is with mixed emotions that I share that Amanuel Bizuneh, Assistant Director of Employer Relations, is resigning from the Career Center to pursue full-time enrollment in Santa Clara University's School of Law. His last day is Friday, August 8.
Amanuel first joined the Santa Clara community as an undergraduate student, graduating in 2018 with a degree in Political Science. Several years later, in February 2022, he joined the Career Center and has made many significant contributions in his 3+ years here. Specifically, Amanuel has served for the past two years as staff lead for the Diversity Works Expo & Awards event, helping to elevate it to the flagship event it is today.
Amanuel leaves the Career Center and the Employer Relations team well positioned for continued impact. He wished to share this note:
"It’s been a real honor to support Santa Clara University students and employer partners over the past three and a half years. I’m especially grateful to my amazing team for creating a culture of creativity, inclusion, and support. Thank you for cultivating an environment where I was able to grow both personally and professionally.
I also want to thank the Multi-Cultural Center for collaborating with me on Diversity Works Expo, where we celebrated campus diversity and awarded scholarship money to incredible students and RSOs doing important work. It’s been a privilege to connect DEI-focused employers with SCU students and help build more inclusive opportunities.
What’s stuck with me most are the hundreds of DWE scholarship applications my team and I had the privilege to read. Each powerful story came from a student who overcame real challenges and used those experiences as fuel to shape their career goals. Their resilience and determination reflect what makes the SCU community so special. My time at the Career Center has meant a lot to me, and I’m leaving with deep gratitude for the people, purpose, and partnerships that made this journey so meaningful. If you would like to connect, please just send me a message on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/abizuneh."
Amanuel, we wish you all the best as you pursue your legal career!
