Rosh Hashanah Begins October 2, 2024

Rosh Hashanah is the start of the Jewish New Year and begins the Jewish High Holiday period. It takes place on the first two days of Tishrei, the first month of the Hebrew calendar, October 2-4, 2024. Like January 1st New Year and Lunar New Year celebrations, Rosh Hashanah is a time for celebration, introspection, and new beginnings. For ten days, beginning with Rosh Hashanah, people devote themselves to special prayers and acts of repentance. This special penitential period culminates with Yom Kippur, the day of atonement, beginning at sundown on October 2 this year.

Rosh Hashanah is commonly spent attending synagogue and eating festive meals with loved ones. One custom practiced on Rosh Hashanah is Tashlich, where one walks into a body of water and ritually casts off sins.
