A Message from the Associate Provost for International Programs
I am delighted to share much good news regarding global programs and initiatives in this update. Nine SCU undergraduates have received prestigious national Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships from the US Department of State. You can see where our national scholarship recipients plan to study abroad, below.
You already know that SCU’s incredible women's soccer team won the national NCAA championship. Did you know that three of the team members are international students? Congratulations to Marika Guay (Canada), Makoto Nezu (Japan) and Keren Goor (U.S./Israel). We are proud of you!
Recent years have brought many challenges to participating in an increasingly globalized world and I am so honored to be part of our SCU community that continually strives to broaden our perspectives and connections to those with varied cultural backgrounds and experiences and create a more inclusive and global SCU.
Sincerely,
Susan Popko
Associate Provost for International Programs

Summer and Fall study abroad programs that have been canceled are listed here. Students whose programs have been canceled have options to redirect their participation to a Winter/Spring 2022 program abroad, or a virtual program. 295 students completed their Fall 2021 pre-departure orientation on May 18, 2021. SCU joins universities across the US in signing the Amicus Brief supporting post-graduation employment Optional Practical Training (OPT) for international students. Nationally, approximately 224,000 students participated in OP in 2019-20. At SCU, 519 students will participate in OPT following graduation this year.

Our International Students and Scholars team continues to provide visa workshops supporting hundreds of our newly admitted international students. The landscape of immigration policy changes rapidly.
