SANTA CLARA UNIVERSITY | Our Jesuit Mission in Action
Our last Mission Monday brought “Solidarity and Kinship” to life. Community members responded to the question - How have you used- or experienced others using - solidarity and kinship?
“There is a pathway to kinship that starts with civility leading to hospitality then to solidarity and finally to kinship. This is critically important not only on campus but throughout the world. Our very survival may indeed depend on more people than not following this pathway.”
- Tom Plante, Professor, Psychology

JESUIT VALUES & MISSION | Discernment & Reflection
A Jesuit education invites decision making through discernment and reflection. Discernment opens us to the movements in ourselves and our community as we make decisions and take actions that contribute to the greater good. Reflection invites us to pause and consider the world and our place in it before making decisions. Practice discernment through prayer, consultation with others and considering the impact of actions from diverse angles. Use reflection to challenge the status quo, acknowledge biases and accept responsibilities for actions.
JESUIT VALUES | In 50 Words or Less
"I am a huge believer in giving back and helping out in the community and the world. Think globally, act locally I suppose. I believe that the measure of a person's life is the effect they have on others."
- Stephen J. “Steve” Nash ‘96
