“May Light always surround you; Hope kindle and rebound you. May your Hurts turn to Healing; Your Heart embrace Feeling. May Wounds become Wisdom; Every Kindness a Prism. May Laughter infect you; Your Passion resurrect you. May Goodness inspire your Deepest Desires. Through all that you Reach For, May your arms Never Tire.”
-D. Simone
Dear JST Magis Community,
Student Life welcomes each of you back to our Jesuit School of Theology as we begin another year, and another semester. As you may be aware, we come back with a variety of emotions filling our hearts.
Our staff is really excited to see all of you and have the life of our halls reignite with conversation, laughter and debate. We also know that our community has been changed by the deaths of two amazing men, Rich Tunstall and Dean Joe Mueller.
As our semester begins you will see many ways for us to honor Joe and Rich--in memory and celebration. Here, in Magis, you will find a place for information about how to stay connected to community and how to take care of yourself in the midst of this time which holds both grief and joy.
Come be with us! As you return to campus here in Berkeley, please know that we welcome you. We invite you to engage and to be supported. We have lovely moments of learning, laughter, remembrance and community-building planned.
Being a living and breathing theologate in the image of St Ignatius and Jesus Christ means that we are so very blessed to walk together, as a pilgrim people, with faith and with hope.
See you very soon,

Prophetic Communities: Organizing as an Expression of Catholic Social Thought
University of San Francisco | Thursday February 9th -Saturday February 11th, 2023
English with simulcast interpretation to Spanish
This conference will explore how Catholic theology and social thought has given rise to community organizing and how community organizers embody and shape the Catholic social tradition. Convened at the University of San Francisco, this three-day event will bring together scholars across disciplines with community organizers of various networks to build relationships, knowledge, and capacity for theological reflection and praxis. Our hope is that bridging the church, academy, and social movements, this conference will foster the solidarity and synodality that Pope Francis has envisioned.
