In the next few weeks, we have a great need for extra help to support and celebrate our graduating students and departing faculty/staff. To create community celebrations such as Commencement Weekend, your volunteer support is vital. We are calling this volunteer opportunity your GIVE BACK DAYS. We encourage you to give back this spring! Please sign up on the Give Back Days Sign-Up form for one, or even two, volunteer shifts. Women and Synodality: Where Can We Go From Here?Thursday, 7-9pm, May 2, 2024 Friday, 9am-8pm, May 3, 2024 A Theological Project of the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University to promote the practice of synodality and the emergence of a synodal church in the US, this two-day conference will make space for imagining the role of women in the future of the global Church. With keynotes and interactive break-out sessions, the event provides an opportunity for listening, dialogue, and building synodal bridges. Call for Submissions - Solito Inspired Art and Creative WritingSubmission deadline: April 24, 2024 The Community Read Committee is accepting submissions of creative works inspired by Javier Zamora’s Solito. The theme of this exhibit is Art and Social Change - Exploring the Themes of Solito. Art is integral to social change movements and has been used to raise awareness of issues, to protest injustice, or to share a vision for a better future. We invite you to submit your own original art – whether a visual piece or written work – and are especially interested in works that connect social change to themes of the book such as borders, migration, family, and identity. Youth Making a Change in Times of Climate Change: A Conversation with Climate Action ActivistsThursday, April 18 | 7:00-8:30 PM Music Recital Hall (SCU South Campus) & Zoom | More Information Bay Area environmental justice youth activists will be brought together to reflect and discuss their organizing, climate actions, and radical hopes for change. By featuring some scenes from “Fruits of Labor” (2021), a documentary highlighting the story of a young girl agricultural worker and high school student in Watsonville, CA, the event will invite the audience to reflect on the complexities of coming of age in a time of climate change, environmental injustices, and economic inequities that intersect with race, gender, age, and immigrant status. Youth experiences featured in the film, along with the reflections of youth activists who will join us as panelists will be complemented by insights from the documentary director, Emily Cohen Ibañez. The event will invite the SCU community to imagine possibilities for solidarity in action as we work toward climate actions that can restore sustainability and global environmental thriving. I look forward to facilitating this dialogue, and creating a moment for learning in and with community.

The JST-SCU Culture of Care: Keeping One Another Safe and Healthy Testing With new variants circulating, infections and hospitalizations are back on the rise, testing plays a critical role. COVID-19 rapid antigen tests are available from the JST Front Desk.
Masking: Masks are a simple and effective way to reduce exposure to COVID-19 and other airborne viruses. Although not required in indoor campus locations, masks are highly recommended. In addition, faculty members have the option to require masks in classrooms. If you are experiencing any illness symptoms we always recommend staying home. If you are testing negative and feel good enough to come to campus we strongly encourage you to wear a mask. If exposed to COVID-19, you do not need to quarantine. Test 3-5 days after your last exposure and wear a mask. If you test negative, consider testing again 48 hours later to confirm a negative result; if experiencing symptoms, test again 48 hours after the second negative test. Isolation: If you test positive, you must report your positive test result, isolate for at least 5 days and wear a mask through Day 10. Isolation during your infectious period means you may not go to class, work, lab, or other activities. Please notify your professors, supervisors, and close contacts. Faculty have been encouraged to accommodate students who need to isolate. If you test positive for the flu, RSV, or if you are ill with another respiratory virus, please stay home to help with your recovery and to limit transmission to others.
