“Advent is the perfect time to clear and prepare the Way. Advent is a winter training camp for those who desire peace. By reflection and prayer, by reading and meditation, we can make our hearts a place where a blessing of peace would desire to abide and where the birth of the Prince of Peace might take place."

Fellows in each of FASPE’s six programs spend two intensive weeks in Germany and Poland, visiting Auschwitz and key historical sites in Berlin and Krakow, and participating in rigorous seminars led by experts in their respective fields. Sunday Advent Reflections 2023
Advent, Renewal, Restoration
We begin Advent this year in a world rife with challenges, needs, and grace-filled opportunities. The world cries out for compassion, peace, and response to suffering. While we experience our world as much more interconnected than in previous times, we are also faced with deep fissures and seeming irreconcilable differences that threaten to upend our relationships with one another and our world. On the personal and communal levels, as well on the national and international ones, the challenge of Jesus' compassion and inclusive ministry call us to respond. How do we make God's love revealed to us in Jesus a reality in response to these deep differences?
This Advent, we are invited to ponder the Sunday Advent readings and open ourselves to the transformative power of the Spirit that speaks to us of the ways to be love and mercy in this changed world.
If you would like to receive a weekly reflection on the Sunday readings for this Advent Season please register with your email address below and they will be sent to you on the Saturday night before.

46th Annual Feast of St. Joseph (Naik) Vaz
Sunday, January 28, 2024 | 11:00 a.m. | Cathedral of Christ the Light.
Plans are being made for our Annual celebration of the Feast of St. Joseph (Naik) Vaz on Sunday January 28, 2024 at the 11 a.m. Mass at Cathedral of Christ the Light.
Our theme of the Program on the life and work of St. Joseph (Naik) Vaz in the Parish Hall after Mass will be for Inter-religious Peace and Reconciliation in memory of the protection given to him by the non-Christian Buddhist Kings of Kandy from Dutch persecution.
We will also be remembering our six African American candidates for the sainthood. While ministering to the persecuted Catholics,
St. Joseph (Naik) Vaz also ministered to the African slaves and their descendants in Sri Lanka.
Please call or text us at 510-325-1803 or email us at josephnaik.vaz@gmail.com to make a Reservation for the Program.
- From JST Alum Filomena Saraswati Giese, who has been involved in research on the life and work of St. Joseph (Naik) Vaz (1651-1711), known as the Apostle of Sri Lanka and Kanara (India).

CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services) Short-Term Therapy CAPS continues to offer short-term therapy. The basic steps to getting started in CAPS are outlined below, and the CAPS website has more detailed information on short-term therapy services:
- First Step: Phone consultation. Students can call 408-554-4501 to schedule a phone consultation, which takes 15-25 minutes. During this call, CAPS staff assess if the therapeutic support a student is seeking fits within the short-term therapy model at CAPS. Collaboratively, the therapist and student will determine next steps.
- If short-term therapy is recommended, a CAPS therapist will then reach out to the student to schedule a 50 minute intake appointment via the SCU Health Portal.
- If referral to an off-campus therapist or services is recommended, an appointment with the Cowell Center Clinical Case Manager will be offered to support the referral process.
*Reminder: There are no limits on the number of therapy sessions and no fees at CAPS, but services are designed to be short-term.
