Spiritual Formation & Liturgy
Reflection on the Eucharistic Bread: Tue, March 12, 1-2 PMJoin Chris Hadley, Mary McGann, and our community baker, Laryn, for an introduction to our practice of baking Eucharistic Bread as we prepare our liturgy’s loaves and discuss the relationship between this practice, integral ecology, and the global food system.
On Thursday, Hongcheol Jeong will serve as deacon and preach at the evening liturgy. On Friday at 1 PM, Alexandra Bishop will preside at a simple Lenten Stations of the Cross in the chapel. On Tuesday, March 19th, our liturgy will include the blessing of an icon of St. Joseph and the Infant Jesus in memory of Dean Fr. Joseph G. Mueller. Since his passing in January 2023, so some people have mentioned that they wish they could still be the beneficiary of his wise counsel and others have mentioned that they seek his intercession. For that reason, we have included on the frame the phrase from Genesis 41:55: Ite ad Joseph. Go to Joseph. The portrait, a work of alumnus Fr. Digital Humanity?: Artificial Intelligence, Spirituality, and the Art of Human ConnectionIn-Person Registration Closes: March 15, 2024 Register here for Digital Humanity?: Artificial Intelligence, Spirituality, and the Art of Human Connection, the 4th annual graduate student conference hosted by the Boisi Center for Religion and American Public Life at Boston college. This conference is free and open to the public. This conference will be held on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024. It will be in-person at Boston College's School of Theology and Ministry Library (Simboli Hall). The option for Zoom attendance will be available for all sessions.
ART/ACT: LOCAL 2024Submission Deadline: Mon. April 1, 4pm PST The David Brower Center invites Northern California artists to apply to Art/Act: Local 2024, our annual juried exhibition showcasing four local artists whose works explore environmental concerns and topics. For this year’s exhibition, inspired by the work of Planting Justice, we are soliciting artwork that engages with the slow, patient process of building sustainable change. Four selected artists will be offered a $1000 honorarium each. This can be used towards the creation of new work, framing or mounting existing work, or any other exhibition production expenses. "Homeward Bound" | Cantare Chorale ConcertSaturday, March 16 | 7:30 PM | Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church Paul Kircher invites you to "Homeward Bound," Cantare Chorale's 25th anniversary concert of favorites from our repertoire over the last 25 years. We present a program of music by American composers, including "Chichester Psalms," a set of psalms in three movements composed in 1965 by Leonard Bernstein for the Chichester Music Festival, which we will perform in Hebrew with adult choir and boy solo. Other highlights include American folk melodies, a Spiritual, a Gospel praise song, and several other selections. The chorus of over 120 singers will be joined by full orchestra. Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary | 2024 Luther Lecture"When Ethics Kills: Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the Story of Us" | Dr. Reggie WilliamsWednesday, March 20, 2024 | 10:00 am | 2000 Center Street, Suite 200 Berkeley, CA In-Person Registration | Online Registration The real challenges we face in our work to cultivate healthy community and human flourishing are not the ones that typically catch our attention and focus our efforts. The problems are more than the overt injustices; they exist as unidentified, and thus, intractable, presumptions that animate our efforts towards the good. Dietrich Bonhoeffer offers an example of this challenge. He offers a sincere and lasting Christian response to the crisis in Germany that was contrast to the near wholesale acquiescence that was common among the general protestant German population. Yet, he also struggled with a common presumption, the problem of the human, i.e. an ideal to which we aspire without question. In this lecture we will take a brief look at this problem by looking at Bonhoeffer’s effort, with the help of the Black Radical Tradition as exemplified by Cedric Robinson. SCU Events

Call for Submissions - Solito Inspired Art and Creative WritingSubmission deadline: April 24, 2024 The Community Read Committee is accepting submissions of creative works inspired by Javier Zamora’s Solito. The theme of this exhibit is Art and Social Change - Exploring the Themes of Solito. Art is integral to social change movements and has been used to raise awareness of issues, to protest injustice, or to share a vision for a better future. We invite you to submit your own original art – whether a visual piece or written work – and are especially interested in works that connect social change to themes of the book such as borders, migration, family, and identity. The JST-SCU Culture of Care: Keeping One Another Safe and Healthy Testing With new variants circulating, infections and hospitalizations are back on the rise, testing plays a critical role. COVID-19 rapid antigen tests are available from the JST Front Desk.
Masking: Masks are a simple and effective way to reduce exposure to COVID-19 and other airborne viruses. Although not required in indoor campus locations, masks are highly recommended. In addition, faculty members have the option to require masks in classrooms. If you are experiencing any illness symptoms we always recommend staying home. If you are testing negative and feel good enough to come to campus we strongly encourage you to wear a mask. If exposed to COVID-19, you do not need to quarantine. Test 3-5 days after your last exposure and wear a mask. If you test negative, consider testing again 48 hours later to confirm a negative result; if experiencing symptoms, test again 48 hours after the second negative test. Isolation: If you test positive, you must report your positive test result, isolate for at least 5 days and wear a mask through Day 10. Isolation during your infectious period means you may not go to class, work, lab, or other activities. Please notify your professors, supervisors, and close contacts. Faculty have been encouraged to accommodate students who need to isolate. If you test positive for the flu, RSV, or if you are ill with another respiratory virus, please stay home to help with your recovery and to limit transmission to others. COVID-19 Dashboard SCU monitors positive cases, virus levels in wastewater, and workplace exposures on campus. Results are shared on our COVID-19 Dashboard.
