Broncos Fall to No. 20 USD, 2-1, In First Conference Game
Junior Kiki Bosio got the Broncos on the board for the first time this season with her first half goal versus the No. 20 Toreros of the University of San Diego. Santa Clara's first half, 1-0, lead was not enough to stop the (9-3-2 overall, 1-0-0 conference) Toreros, as the Broncos fell, 2-1, to USD in their conference home opener. No. 20 Broncos Blank Bulldogs, 3-0
The Santa Clara volleyball team remained undefeated in West Coast Conference play this weekend with a 3-0 sweep of Gonzaga University. The final set scores were 25-23, 25-19, 25-19. Broncos Conclude Day One at SMC Invitational
The Santa Clara women's tennis team concluded the first day of competition at the Saint Mary's College Invitational hosted in Moraga, Calif. at conference opponent - Saint Mary's College. The Broncos saw success in both singles and doubles, in the matches that were played today. Sophomore Carmen Pham was a last minute change in the Blue Doubles Bracket for SCU, as Kimi Cox's original partner Isabelle Hoy fell ill. The Pham-Cox duo will play in the finals tomorrow, as they defeated Pacific's Amber Abdallah and Clara Schuhmacher, 8-4, in the quarterfinals, and edged the Boise State - University of Nevada, Reno pairing of Laura Baum and Katarina Huba, respectively, 9-8(6). Meet Cross Country Senior Chris Gumbs
The Santa Clara cross country teams are training this week for the Bronco Invitational on Sat., Oct. 18 at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale. Chris Gumbs was honored on the 2006 All-WCC first team and returns for his senior year. Gumbs, a Seattle native majoring in Combined Science, talked this week to santaclarabroncos.com about why he loves Santa Clara, what he wished he could change about himself and of course why he encourages fans to come out to the Bronco Invitational (hint: `they might just witness a new school record'). Meet Senior Cross Country Runner Veronica Vazquez
The Santa Clara cross country team is training this week for the Bronco Invitational on Sat., Oct. 18 at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale. Last weekend Veronica Vazquez finished sixth at the Charles Bowles Invitational at Willamette University in Salem, Ore. and the women won the title. Vazquez, a senior from San Jose, is majoring in Accounting. The Santa Clara women's tennis team will participate in the Saint Mary's College Invitational hosted in Moraga, Calif. This will be the second fall tournament of the 2008-09 campaign for the Broncos. Softball to Play in Battle of the Bay
The Santa Clara women's softball team will participate in the Battle of the Bay this weekend in Hayward, Calif., to kick off their fall tournament schedule. No. 12 Broncos to Take on No. 13 UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz
After 17 road games, the No. 12 Santa Clara men's water polo team (12-5 overall, 6-1 conference) continues their road schedule with trips to No. 13 UC Davis on Saturday, Oct. 11 at noon in Davis, and UC Santa Cruz at noon on Sunday, Oct. 12 in Santa Cruz. Leading the Broncos this week is WWPA Top Performer redshirt junior Jack Wall, who has scored 34 goals this season. Wall, who is ranked 19th in the nation in goals scored is closely followed by junior Liam Farrell. Farrell is 21st in the nation in goals scored with 31. Freshman goalie Michael Wishart is fifth in the nation with 151 saves. Both Farrell and Wishart have each earned WWPA Top Performer honors this season, as well.
