Professor of Practice
Brian Nelson has 20 years of practical experience in accounting and finance. After working as an audit manager at KPMG, he has held several executive finance positions with emerging and established technology companies in Silicon Valley. He is currently Vice President, Finance for Kleer Corporation, a leading edge wireless audio company. He was previously Vice President, Finance at Silicon Access Networks, a fabless semiconductor company, and held the same position for PlanetRx.com, which had a successful $110 million IPO in 1999. Earlier in his career, Mr. Nelson served as Corporate Controller at LinkExchange, an internet advertising cooperative that was acquired by Microsoft in 1998, and at Upshot, a web-based sales-force automation company that was later acquired by Siebel Systems in 2003.
Mr. Nelson began working as an adjunct instructor at SCU in 2008, teaching ACTG 301 (Accounting for Business Decisions). After the MBA program revised its accounting core requirements, he began teaching ACTG 300 (Financial Accounting) and ACTG 302 (Managerial Accounting). Brian received his undergraduate degree in accounting from San Jose State University, studied in the MBA program here at Santa Clara, and earned his CPA license in the State of California.
