Assistant Professor, Management and Entrepreneurship

Ewan Kingston (PhD, Duke University) specializes in the ethics and governance of sustainability, with a focus on climate change. Previously, Ewan worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Princeton’s Climate Futures Initiative and as an Assistant Professor at College of Charleston.

His work to date has focused on (i) the role of consumers in responding to widespread market failures such as negative externalities, and (ii) international burden-sharing with respect to climate change.

Current research projects include the following research questions:

  • How can regulators of high-tech industries balance the need for expertise from business with the requirement to remain neutral and serve the public interest? What does responsible lobbying by businesses look like?
  • How should conscientious individuals engage with industries whose core business appears undesirable (e.g. fossil fuel firms)?
  • How might a fair and effective intellectual property regime respond to the need for innovation to solve the challenges of global climate change?

.   How can we govern the environmental footprint of information technology?

Ewan enjoys using innovative techniques in his teaching such as backwards course design, alternative grading as well as role-playing games and simulations.
