Office of the President

President's Welcome

As president of Santa Clara University, I welcome you to our website and I thank you for your interest in our distinguished University.

SCU was founded in 1851 by the Society of Jesus, and belongs to a long, rich tradition of Jesuit education. For more than 450 years, the Society has educated students with a pedagogy inspired by the Jesuit ideal of humanitas – where knowledge and imagination are joined to educate the whole person in service to humanity.

Santa Clara is proud to continue in that tradition and stands committed to our Jesuit mission and Catholic identity.

Santa Clara is nationally acclaimed for its academic programs, outstanding and engaged faculty, and commitment to integrated education. We educate women and men to be leaders of competence, conscience, and compassion in service to others. Community-based learning is one of many transformative experiences that tie together the “three C’s” for our students. In our curriculum and in our institutional practices, we strive to educate future leaders who are prepared to build a sustainable environment for a just world.

The diversity of our Santa Clara family enriches us in all aspects of our educational enterprise. We welcome different religious, spiritual, and cultural perspectives that shape our worldview. More than 8,000 students from across the United States and 48 countries around the world call this University home.

Located in the heart of Silicon Valley amidst the vibrancy of the San Francisco Bay Area, our University is uniquely positioned to make the most of partnerships with cutting-edge business and technology firms, both local and global.

I encourage you to tour our website, watch our videos and slideshows, and learn more about the bright, active, and engaged community we have here. From all of us at Santa Clara University, we hope to see you on campus soon.
