Rolling and Tumbling--The idea of Holonomy

Lecture

Robert Bryant, Director of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, will give a general-interest talk about the mathematics and mechanics of moving objects, including what motions are possible with some everyday and some not-so-everyday toys.

No special background beyond high school mathematics is needed, as the talk is aimed at bright high school students, as well as their parents, teachers, and the general public.
