Know a Bronco who deserves a standing ovation for living SCU’s values in the world? Show your appreciation for their accomplishments and commitment to making a more just, humane, and sustainable world by nominating them for one of four notable Alumni Awards: the Ignatian, Locatelli, Bannan, or Outstanding Young Alumni awards.

Nominations open on Thursday, Sept. 17. Keep an eye out for that day’s edition of 3-Point Thursday for your chance to recognize a deserving Bronco!

Maggie Beidelman ’09 helped bring the San Francisco Chronicle’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “Burned” investigation to life through video and visual storytelling. See how she shined a light on California’s wildfire insurance crisis and made journalism history along the way.

The Show Must Go On

After an injury redirected her path, Laura Hollison ’20 found a way to bring her passions for dance and healthcare together. Now, she works behind the scenes on Broadway to help performers stay healthy and ready for the spotlight.

A Supreme Bronco Moment

A group of 14 Santa Clara Law alumni recently gathered in Washington, D.C., to be sworn in before the United States Supreme Court. Hear from the Broncos who marked this major milestone, including Alex Louie, J.D. ’20, Daniel Myers, J.D. ’95, and Carla Passero, J.D. ’95.

The Bronco Welcome Tour

Even before the boxes were unpacked and classes began, incoming students and families got their first taste of the SCU family. From San Francisco to Hong Kong, alumni helped welcome Santa Clara’s newest Broncos to the herd at this summer’s Send-Off receptions.

University News

Leavey’s New Leader

Dr. Ravi Bapna, an expert in artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and digital transformation, takes the helm as dean of the Leavey School of Business on Tuesday, Sept. 1. He has big plans for strengthening academic programs, bolstering research, and engaging industry and community partners.

In Memoriam

In August, the Santa Clara University community lost two beloved professors.

Professor Emeritus Dale Achabal taught in the Leavey School of Business (LSB) for 40 years, specializing in marketing and retail management. He co-founded SCU’s Retail Management Institute and the Retail Workbench. He is warmly remembered for his care and concern for his students and colleagues.

We also mourn the loss of Professor Emeritus Charles “Charley” Phipps, S.J. He taught English for nearly 50 years, served as minister of the Santa Clara Jesuit Community, led the University Honors Program, chaired the English department, served as a resident minister in the residence halls, and much more. He is fondly remembered as a teacher who embodied cura personalis.

Professor Achabal’s and Fr. Phipps’ influence lives on in the generations of Broncos whose lives they touched.
