From the Associate Provost
Dear SCU Community,
During this time of the fall term, we are reflective and grateful for opportunities to come together that celebrate our global community through programs and initiatives. This month, some of those opportunities include our iExchange program that pair SCU faculty and staff with international students as cultural mentors, our Global Opportunities Expo that brought partners from around the world to SCU to profile study abroad and global internship opportunities, and the annual International Education Week, which is November 16-21, 2025.
I invite you to join us this month and contribute your global story.
Warmly, Susan Popko Associate Provost for International Programs

Global Partner Focus: University of Deusto, San Sebastian, Spain
SCU has maintained a partnership with the Jesuit University of Deusto, San Sebastian, Spain since 2012. Our partnership has focused on undergraduate reciprocal exchange. University of Deusto was founded in 1886 in Basque Country, and is the oldest private university in Spain. Deusto has two campuses, San Sebastian and Bilbao. SCU’s exchange is focused on the San Sebastian campus, which has approximately 2,000 undergraduate students. Our partnership with Deusto enables SCU and Deusto students to spend a semester or year abroad each year. This year, SCU is hosting six students from Deusto and four SCU students are studying abroad in San Sebastian, taking classes such as: Communication, Finance, Economics, Spanish Studies, Marketing, Management, and Entrepreneurship.
SCU senior, Shivanni Glynn, majoring in Communication and Environmental Studies, studied at Deusto, San Sebastian during Fall 2024 and shared, “I loved San Sebastián so much, and I think it was really unique compared to other programs because it was so immersive and there were hardly any Americans.”
Students interested in learning more about study abroad opportunities at Deusto, San Sebastian should contact globallearning@scu.edu.
