Ernest Giachetti '63, was recognized with the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry's 2009 Medallion of Distinction. The award is the alumni association's highest honor and given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the Dugoni School of Dentistry, research, dental education, or the community. Giachetti has served on the school's faculty for 42 years. Additionally, he volunteers with a small group of fellow alumni to provide a homemade cioppino dinner for the dental school's first-year students each July. "To be recognized by the Dugoni School for doing what I love doing is incredible," said Giachetti. "It is one of the most significant and humbling honors I've ever received." He also maintains a private dental practice in Cupertino, Calif.

James B. Fugua '63 has been elected to be Vice Commodore of Stillwater Yacht Club at Pebble Beach.

Frank Firpo '63 retired from his 45-year long coaching career at Burlingame High School. Firpo coached softball, volleyball, girls basketball and boys basketball at Burlingame in addition to teaching history and physical education and serving as athletic director from 2000-06. He retired as a teacher in 2004.

Richard Cable '63 writes: "Recently was a playing member of the first American baseball team to visit mainland China to engage the Chinese in baseball games. The Americans took 4 out of 5 games and, at 72, I was the oldest person to ever play baseball in China."

Robert Bachmann '63 retired in 2001 from Northrop Grumman and is now teaching part time at Monterey Naval Postgraduate School. 

Paul F. Weston '64,  MA '73 taught during the spring semester at The Royal University of Phenom Phen. He worked with students in the English Support Program. These students are in teacher training and are learning curriculum management, classroom strategies, and effective teaching skills.

Miguel Ucovich '64 was selected to the Board of Directors for the California League of Cities for a two year term beginning in September of 2011. Ucovich is a council member in the Town of Loomis

John Turner ’64 M.A. ’72 writes that he currently lives in downtown San Jose after living in Los Gatos for 30 years. He Retired in 2004 after teaching high school English for 35 years. He enjoys volunteering and serving on two boards.

Clarence Sullivan ’64 writes: “My grandad taught the Commercial Course in 1911. My parents and four grandparents are buried at the University Cemetery and my daughter, Kieran Sullivan, is a professor in Psychology now.”

John Johnck '60 attended his 60th Reunion from the 8th grade Class of 1952 at St. Vincent de Paul, San Francisco, Calif. First gathering ever. He lives in So Lake Tahoe, Russan River, and S.F. and is retired. Go Broncos!

Emmett Hearn '64 will see the 7th edition of his textbook, "Federal Acquisition and Contract  Management" published this spring. 

Bob Garibaldi '64 has been inducted into the Sac-Joaquin Section Hall of Fame. Bob pitched for SCU in the 1962 College World Series and was named the CWS Most Outstanding Player that year. He later played four seasons with the San Francisco Giants.  

Bob Garibaldi ’64 was inducted into the Sac-Joaquin High School section athletic hall of fame class. In high school, Garibaldi was a star for both the basketball and baseball teams. In 1960, he led the state in scoring average with 25.3 points a game. He went to Santa Clara University and was a pitcher for the best baseball team in school history. He no-hit defending NCAA champion USC to get into the College World Series and was named the 1962 CWS Most Outstanding Player even though Santa Clara lost to Michigan in the championship game. He set CWS records for strikeouts (38) and innings pitched (27.2). He played four seasons in the Major Leagues with the San Francisco Giants.

William Burke '64 is in his 43rd year as a financial advisor with Morgan and Stanley in Ventura County.  He is joined by his daughter, Erin, and son, Brian, in his practice. 

Charlie Barca ’64 writes: “Joyful first-time grandfather of Libby Rose McGrillen (born October ’09), the daughter of Sarah Barca ’95. ‘Nonno’ gets to ‘nanny’ twice weekly while Sarah owns and operates Funky Door Yoga in the Haight. Her family lives in Bernal Heights in San Francisco.”

Paul Vlahutin '65 teaches engineering and mathematics at Century College in White Bear Lake, Minn.

Joan Schirle '65 stars as Mary Jane in "Mary Jane: The Musical" at Dell'Arte's Mad River Festival. Joan is Founding Artistic Director of Dell'Arte International www.dellarte.com and lives in Blue Lake, California.

Paul L. Peterson ’65 retired in 2007 after nine years as founder and CEO of Aurum Consulting Engineers, a professional electrical engineering consulting business in Monterey, Calif. Aurum continues in operation.

Junona Jonas '65 writes: "Bruce and I are enjoying retirement and getting to travel. I am currently working with Catherine's Center, a transition home for women leaving prison. Also serving as Chairperson of The St. Mary's Hospital Board of Directors in San Francisco."

 Professional singer-actress and musician Kathy Holly '65 will be appearing in Bejing at the CD Jazz Cafe on Saturday, April 3rd and at the East Shore Club on Sunday, April 4th. She'll be promoting her new CD, Roundtrip. Following her Beijing appearance, she will be conducting a Masters workshop in Performing Arts at Hebei Normal University in Shijiazhuang City, the Capitol of Hebei Province. Holly is from San Francisco, California and was the first Cabaret singer in China to sing in Shanghai and Bejing in 1979 when she did cultural exchange performances, while performing on a Cruise Ship, the first one to travel the South China Sea all year. She sings in several languages and will perform songs from her new CD as well as Jazz Standards from the Great American Songbook. She will bring Certificates of Honor from Assemblywoman, Fiona Ma, San Francisco's Mayor Gavin Newsom '89,  the Mayor of Shijiazhuang City, and Hebei University's President.
