Chloe Lynn Wilson ’13 writes, "I am thrilled to announce that I will be serving as a Jesuit Volunteer with JVC Northwest for one year beginning in August 2013! I will be a community liaison/tribal court spokesperson with the Northwest Justice Project on the Colville Indian Reservation in Omak, Wash. I especially want to thank all of the Campus ministers who inspired me to pursue this incredible adventure, and who supported me through my application and discernment process!"
Justin Viele ’13 was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 37th round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft.
Amy Tamayo ’13 of Hailey, Idaho, has been chosen to participate in the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals. It is a one-year, federally funded fellowship for study and work in Germany. From more than 600 applicants, Tamayo was selected as one of 75 participants. While in Germany, she will attend a two-month German language course, study at a German university or professional school for four months, and complete a five-month internship with a German company in her career field.
Gabi Solis ’13 attended the American Bach Solists Acadamy in San Francisco this past summer where she was a soloist in Bach's Mass in B Minor and Biber's Missa Salisburgensis. A late-night call this fall from the renowned music director Jeffrey Thomas included an invitation to perform with the professionals performing Handel's Messiah at Grace Cathedral Church in San Francisco and at the Mondavi Center at UC Davis in December 2013.
Aven P. Satre Meloy '13 is among this year's list of 32 Rhodes scholars. The Rhodes Scholarship will enable Satre Meloy to pursue a master of philosophy in geography and the environment at Oxford University in England. He has been interning in the White House Office of Energy and Climate Change.
Jaime Saavedra J.D. '13 joined the San Francisco office of Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton. Saavedra joins the firm as an associate with the Patent Team in the internationally recognized Intellectual Property Department.
Dr. Saavedra focuses his practice on patent prosecution and counseling, due diligence, licensing, and other intellectual property issues related to matters in the health and life sciences.
Josh Ronen ’13 is currently completing his second year of medical school at the Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) on the island of Dominica in the eastern Caribbean. By next summer he is on pace to start his third year as a physician-in-training, composed of clinical rotations at a RUSM-affiliate hospital location in California.
John Michael Reyes ’09, M.Div ’13 is currently the Campus Minister for Liturgy at Seattle University and cantors for Christ our Hope Parish, the newst Catholic Church in Seattle, Wash.
Former LEAD scholar at SCU Roberto Ramos ’13 has received a full-ride, merit-based scholarship to attend the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA—a very rare honor. Called the Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship, it pays full tuition for four years for at least 16 students. Recipients also receive special access to faculty and a research stipend of $5,000, among other benefits. LOT scholars are selected for one of two tracks—Research or Service to Underserved Communities.
Spencer Rahn ’13 writes that he is actively seeking a job in a the field of analytics, using his love of numbers and analytical mind to solve problems and deliver solutions.
Sarah Perkins ’13 has accepted an editorial assistant position for Professional Roofing magazine. She is living in the Chicagoland area and can't wait to see everyone at Grand Reunion in the fall.
Julianne Parayo '13 has won a Fulbright U.S. Student Award to teach English in Poland for 2014–15. She plans to use her English and Music training to explore her capacity for teaching English in a new environment and to participate in a powerful and artistic cross-cultural exchange. She chose Poland to explore its deep regard for both tradition and progress and to investigate how cross-generational dynamics transform a nation's culture.
Saayeli Mukherji '13, received a Fulbright fellowship to study at the Duisenberg School of Finance in The Netherlands to integrate ethics and business. She will dive deeply into international legal and financial regulations that help prevent global ethics catastrophes such as the 2008 Financial Crisis. Additionally, she plans to start an open forum on business ethics with contributions from Silicon Valley and Dutch professionals that will serve as a resource for future business leaders.
Alyson Maureen McNamara J.D. '13 and Alexander Edward Cunny J.D. '13 are thrilled to announce their engagement to be married on Aug. 30, 2014, at the Dove Canyon Country Club in Dove Canyon, Calif.
Alyson is the daughter of James and Beverly McNamara of Coto de Caza, Calif. She graduated from Santa Margarita Catholic High School in 2004. Alyson attended Chapman University in Southern California earning her bachelor’s degree in economics in 2009, and she graduated from Santa Clara University in 2013 earning her law degree. She is employed as an attorney at the law firm of Gauntlett and Associates in Irvine, Calif.
Nate May ’13 was awarded the American Institute of Chemists Foundation Award in recognition of a record of leadership, ability, character and scholastic achievement. He was also welcomed into Sigma Xi, the national scientific research society.
Webster Groves native Maura Kinsella ’13 is home with her parents to recuperate after a dramatic cycling crash on Feb. 3, 2015, during the Tour of Qatar. Maura, 23, is a 2009 graduate of Visitation Academy and races professionally for Optum Pro Cycling. She also is a member of the USA Cycling team. Following several days in a Doha hospital to nurse broken ribs, she hopes to compete in the 2015 Tour de France and the World Championships, to be held Richmond, Virginia.
Mohamed Jawad M.S. ’13, a project engineer, was recently profiled in The National for his extensive collection of Apple products. Jawad, an Emerati, has original and rare Apple firsts, and every version of recent creations. Jawad takes part in IT exhibitions throughout the UAE and hopes to one day have a museum where his collection is on permanent display.
Goalkeeper Larry Jackson ’13 has joined the Colorado Rapids, one of Major League Soccer’s ten charter clubs. Jackson was also named the 2012 West Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year.
Former SCU goalkeeper Larry Jackson '13 signed to work as a goalkeeper for the MLS's New England Revolution. Jackson, a native of East Palo Alto, was named the 2012 West Coast Conference Goalie of the Year at Santa Clara and to the 2012 Continental Tires NSCAA All-Far West Region Third Team.
Wes Helmholz J.D. ’13 joins the Los Angeles office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.
The Reno Bighorns acquired eight players in the NBA Development League Draft, including Kevin Foster ’13 in the fourth round. Six-foot-two Foster played for Santa Clara from 2008 to 2013 and made 431 3-point field goals, tied for the fourth-most all-time in NCAA Division I history.
Melanie "Mimi" Fang M.A. '13 is excited to announce her internships at City of Fremont's Youth and Family Services and Christian Counseling Center in Fremont. She will be leading groups on grief, motherhood, stress management, social skills for kids, and parenting education. She is delighted to be working with individuals and families in both talk and play therapy. And she is looking forward to connecting with other alumni and hearing their next steps.
Brenna Donnellan ’13 of San Rafael has been accepted into Teach for America and will teach high school biology in southwest Texas. She graduated early, with honors, with a double major in environmental science and ancient studies.
Cailin Doherty ’13 is the new president of the Los Angeles chapter of the SCU Alumni Association. Cailin studied marketing while at Santa Clara and played on the women's soccer team. She loved her time at SCU, especially working as an intern for the Alumni Association. Cailin enjoys sports, spending time with her friends and family, and meeting new Broncos. She is currently a sales assistant at OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network.
