Richard J. WilliamsDean's Executive Professor of ManagementRichard J. Williams is a Dean’s Executive Professor of Management in the Leavey School of Business. Dr Williams was educated in the United Kingdom and holds a Bachelors and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. Following graduate school he came to California to carry out research under the National Academy of Sciences /National Research Council. For the next 20 years Dr. Williams worked in Silicon Valley, initially as an engineer then moving into engineering management and later corporate management. He has been an executive at a number of companies, and was part of the team that led the leveraged buy-out of Ultratech from General Signal and its subsequent Initial Public Offering (IPO).As part of Ultratech’s executive staff he was the President and Member of the Board of Directors of both UltraBeam based in New Jersey and Verdant Technologies based in San Jose. Dr Williams teaches Contemporary American Business (BUSN 70) and International Management (Mgmt 80) He was the recipient of the Extraordinary Achievement Award for Teaching in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 & 2005. His other interests lie in helping not-for-profit organizations and he is on the Board of a local Animal Shelter. |
