Choosing your path in higher education is an extremely important decision. You will spend the next four years of your life in the environment of your choice, with the instructors and coursework designed for, and supported by that institution.
I have been at SCU for 26 years, and have seen many fine students grow and develop here. I think Santa Clara University is a great choice - as a matter of fact, I am encouraging my own daughter to attend SCU. Here are some of the reasons why I recommend SCU and its Music Department to her, and to you:
Dedication of Facilities and Faculty to Learning: Santa Clara University is an institution dedicated to its students and their learning. The recently opened Learning Commons is a physical manifestation of this commitment. Last summer, the main Music Dept classroom were converted to a state-of-the-art "smart" classroom. New buildings and facilities have been the focus for the university for several years now, to continue student development as the new century unfolds. SCU has formalized an ongoing process of evaluating every department and program on campus to improve all facets of our learning goals and objectives. Santa Clara University is prepared to meet the educational, social and spiritual needs of a new generation.
Learning in Music: The SCU Music Department's curriculum will engage your heart and mind, providing you with strong knowledge across the entire field of music. Instruction in the skills of theory, reading, sight-singing, rhythm, composition and performance are taught be master teachers from around the Bay area. These same teachers perform nationally and internationally and published composers, authors and musicologists.
Variety of Experiences: The Music Department will provide you with a panorama of learning-centered activities with an exceptional group of student who share your passion for music. Whether your interest is in performance, composition, theory or history, the Music Department can support your studies. You will make life-long friends here: both with faculty and fellow students.
Location: Santa Clara University is located in the heart of Silicon Valley, with major concert and performance (HP Pavilion, California Theater) venues within minutes of campus, and the world famous San Francisco Symphony, Ballet, and Opera - plus a myriad of live theater and dance, are easily accessible within an hour's drive or train journey.
