Congratulations to the following 2012-13 SCU School of Engineering Faculty Award Winners!

Researcher of the Year Award: Mohammad Ayoubi, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering

MAyoubi-2013bThe productivity of his research and diversity and development of new topic areas made Mohammad the perfect choice for this honor. With only a small group of student researchers, he has published five conference papers and two journal papers in the last year—a testament to his effort and guidance of projects which has been evident consistently since he arrived at Santa Clara University.

Award for Teaching Excellence: Drazen Fabris, Chair and Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Drazen Fabris Students who nominated Drazen offered praise for his knowledge and ability to explain complicated subjects at a fundamental level, his commitment to excellence, passion for teaching, and help in developing the full potential of undergraduates and graduates.

Adjunct Lecturer of the Year: Joshua Conner, Computer Engineering

Joshua ConnerA number of elements factored into this decision. Not only was Josh recognized for the impact he has had on both undergraduate and graduate students, but a commitment to improving his teaching, a strict enforcement of the academic standards and ethics that define a Santa Clara education, and his dedication to the relevance of our curriculum through the development of new coursework sets Josh apart.

Gerald E. Markle Award: Glenn Williams, Applied Mathematics

Glenn WilliamsStudents of Dr. Gerry Markle, the founding chair of the Department of Applied Mathematics at Santa Clara University, have established this award to honor his memory by recognizing excellent teaching. Glenn has been praised for his outstanding work with students who cite his clear explanations in class and assistance with learning outside class. Aside from his work here, he has distinguished himself through founding Arrapoi, Inc., providing improved methods and software for systems biology modeling and pre-clinical drug design.
