Title: "Controlling stem cell differentiation: bioprocess strategies"

Speaker: Dr. Mayasari Lim, Nanyang Technological University

Location: Bannan Engineering, EC326

Time: Thursday, May 30th, 5:30-6:30 p.m

Short Bio: Dr. Mayasari Lim is an assistant professor in the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at Nanyang Technological University. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering at UC Berkeley and her Ph.D. at Imperial College London. Dr. Lim's research focus has been in the field of adult hematopoietic and embryonic stem cell differentiation.

Bioengineering hosted a seminar on April 25, “Theory and Practice of Deep Brain Stimulation,” by Dr. Eric E. Sabelman (Dept. of Neurosurgery - Kaiser Permanente Medical Center). This is the third of the seven bioengineering research seminars scheduled for the Spring quarter. Topics of the two previous seminars were on “Innovation Principles”, by speaker Jay Elliot, Founder/CEO of NUVEL (former senior VP of Apple), and “Development of Biofuel Cells Using Synthetic Biology Tools,” by Lital Alfonta, Professor of Biotechnology Engineering, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev Beer-Sheva, Israel, and Visiting Professor at UCSD Bioengineering.

New M.S. in Bioengineering Offered

Effective Fall 2012, the Department of Bioengineering is pleased to announce the inception of a new Master of Science degree program with a focus on biomolecular engineering, biomaterials and tissue engineering, and bio-device engineering.

Spring and Fall 2013 Bioengineering Advisory Board Meeting

The Spring BIOE advisory board meeting will be held on May 9, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, and the Fall meeting is scheduled for Oct. 24, Thursday, in Benson Parlor B.

A series of one-hour seminars will be presented by guest professors and researchers on their particular research topics in bioengineering or related fields.

Lab News - 4/3/13

Undergraduate senior Josergio Zaragoza from Professor Asuri's lab was featured on MRS TV. He presented the poster "Investigating the relationships between mechanical and thermal properties of hydrogel nanocomposites" at the 2013 Materials Research Society Spring Meeting.

Future Pacific Voice Conference

XXII Pacific Voice Conference will be held in two locations. The "East PVC" will be held in Krakow, Poland, April 11-12, 2014. To learn more click here.

The XXIII PVC West will be held at Santa Clara University in the Spring of 2015 (NOT Oct. 2014) in conjunction with the VI World Voice Consortium Congress.

Lab News - 10/8/12

Professor Zhang's group has been invited to present at 2012 Bay Area Label-Free User Group conference hosted by Genetech, Inc on October 8th. Postdoctoral fellow Dr. Liang Xiang will speak on the stage about using label-free technology for drug discovery and cellular enigineering in Zhang lab. Graduate students Jennifer Barata and Blake Williams will present a poster as well.
