Appeals we will not consider

Lifestyle choices are not considered to be unique circumstances. Adjustments to the need analysis formula will not be made to reflect these conditions, which include:

  • Car payments
  • Cease of child support and/or alimony
  • Changes in seasonal employment
  • Changes in your parent's monthly living expenses, except for certain non-discretionary items (e.g., court-ordered payments, wage garnishment, medical expenses)
  • Consumer debt
  • Credit card debt (yours or your parents)
  • Early retirement (before age 65)
  • High mortgage payments
  • Late financial aid applications from graduate or professional school students
  • Matching other college/university offers
  • Moving expenses
  • Parental unwillingness to support educational expenses
  • Private school expenses including tuition
  • Requests to convert your loans or Federal Work Study funds into additional grant funds
  • Tuition expenses for parent in college
  • Weddings, vacations and/or other lifestyle costs
  • Yearly fluctuations in income (due to loss of overtime, bonuses, etc.)
