Marco Bravo with the Education Department has received a $999,332 award from the National Science Foundation to support his project "Investigating the Impact of Preparation in Racial Equity and Language Equity Practices on STEM Secondary Teacher Effectiveness and Retention."

This Project proposes to study qualitatively and quantitatively if and to what extent STEM teachers continue to support culturally and linguistically diverse students through instructional shifts that account for the racialized and linguistically complex nature of STEM education. Research design will include interview, observation and survey data. We utilize an external advisory board to provide feedback on project findings on a quarterly basis, with opportunities to refine instruments to better capture what causes Noyce Scholar and STEM graduates to persist (or not) with the pedagogical training related to language and racial equity that they received.
