Returning Students Form

A student who withdrew from the University is eligible to re-enroll without special permission under the following conditions:

  • The student left in good academic standing
  • The student has no outstanding financial obligations with the University
  • The student plans to return to the same college or school at the University
  • The student is returning within 5 years of the date of withdrawal.


Students who do not meet the conditions above must seek permission to re-enroll from the dean of academic support services.  Students must clear all outstanding financial obligations.  Re-enrolling students are subject to the degree and curriculum requirements in the Undergraduate Bulletin in effect at the time of re-entry.

Students who attended another institution during their absence from Santa Clara University may be awarded no more than 10 units of elective transfer credit upon being readmitted. Total credit including previous transfer credit, Advanced Placement credit or International Baccalaureate credit cannot exceed one half the numbers of units required to earn the degree.

Students wishing to re-enroll must complete the following Returning Student form.  The Office of the Registrar will respond by email within 5 working days. Please be mindful of the following deadlines to apply to be re-enrolled:

  • End of last week of fall classes to re-enroll winter quarter;
  • End of last week of winter classes to re-enroll spring quarter;
  • End of last week of spring classes to re-enroll summer session;
  • Friday, two weeks prior to the first day of fall classes to re-enroll fall.

International undergraduate students on F or J visas intending to withdraw from the University should be aware that to resume their studies at SCU they must apply for a new immigration document and pay the SEVIS fee.  Normally, upon withdrawal from the University international students are required to depart the US within sixty days.  International students intending to return on a F or J visa must obtain appropriate documents from the Global Engagement Office International Student Services.
