Letter from the Provost
Santa Clara University will soon confer upon you the degree that you have earned, and together with your family and friends we will send you forth to help build a more humane, just and sustainable world. On behalf of the entire faculty, I would like to express our heartfelt congratulations on your many achievements and our best wishes for your future endeavors.
Your determination and efforts in the classroom, community, laboratory and studio have seen you through a rigorous program of study. However, what you take away from Santa Clara University is more than a diploma signaling your successful completion of a degree program; it is an education in the Jesuit tradition - a way of viewing and analyzing the world, critically evaluating complex situations, demonstrating creativity and compassion, and acting justly and ethically to advance the common good.
No matter what your chosen profession or vocation, you will find yourself consistently drawing upon your Santa Clara education to guide your reasoning and inform the decisions you make. The bonds and friendships you have forged at Santa Clara will stand the test of time. The same classmates who will walk across the stage with you will be by your side to comfort and celebrate with you at each step along your life journey.
Please know that Santa Clara always will be your home. Return to campus often, reminisce about your student days, reflect on the values of your Jesuit education, and join with fellow alumni - past, present and future - who have shared in this transformative educational experience.
With warmest congratulations,
Dennis C. Jacobs, Ph.D.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
