 Take Action

Reduce: Reduce the distance your food has to travel by signing up for Harvest of the Month. Harvest of the Month allows students to taste and explore a different California-grown fruit or vegetable each month produced by local farmers. Even better, sign up for Catalan Family Farms' weekly Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) program.

Reuse: Don't throw your leftovers away! Summertime means salads, but leftover salad can be unappetizing for many. Instead of throwing it out, however, turn your leftover salad and vegetables into Gazpacho! Check out this healthy and tasty Gazpacho recipe.

Recycle: If you have extra food scraps or food that has gone bad, compost it! If you do not have composting at home check out PlanetNatural.com's composting 101. It is easy to do once you have a compost system set up.

Respect: Get involved with WWOOF. WWOOF stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms and is a community exchange program. In return for volunteer help, WWOOF hosts offer food, accommodation, and opportunities to learn about organic lifestyles. Check out WWOOF if you are interested in volunteering on organic farms and want to see a different part of the world while respecting and giving back to a new community.
