  •  Food and Agribusiness Institute brings "Hunger Games" to SCU

    The Food and Agribusiness Institute (FAI) is raising awareness of global hunger issues. FAI brought its own version of the Hunger Games to SCU last spring to engage students, faculty, and staff with issues of hunger and malnutrition.   •  Students, employees swap clothing; donate to local organizations

    The 2nd Annual Swap for Good took place on May 14, as the Office of Sustainability and SCCAP partnered to create this clothing exchange and donation drive to benefit local organizations in the community. Read about this event, as well as Move Out 2012 to find out how you can make sustainable choices when moving out and can be a part of SCU's waste diversion and community donation efforts.

  •  Eco-Fashion and Art Show

    The 2nd Annual Eco-Fashion and Art Show took place in early February to showcase student designers' talents in creating eco-fashion on the runway as well as artwork in a recycled art gallery. The event raised awareness of garment workers around the world and encouraged people to think about alternative uses and reuses of fashion. Watch a video of the event.

    Monday, Dec. 5, 2011
    Marquita spearheads the linen drive, inviting staff, faculty, and students to donate their linens to local shelters at the end of the year.
    Marquita Coe, Office of Registrar, serves as co-chair of the Staff Senate's community service committee. Through this role and as a volunteer working with the Ignatian Center, Marquita has helped plan and promote various projects with local campus and community organizations.

  •  Career Center connects students to sustainability-related careers

    The Career Center is an incredible resource to find more information about careers of all sorts, including sustainability-related careers. "When students come to us and say they want a "green career" it's as broad as saying they want to work abroad." Career Center staff have done an extensive amount of work to provide resources on Green Careers for students, faculty, and staff.

    Over 1,300 members of the Santa Clara University community participated in last week's commute survey. Faculty typically travel 17 miles one-way, while the number drops for staff and students (13 and 14 miles, respectively).   •  Conner Mulrooney, Class of 2012

    Conner's work has impacted the Santa Clara community by placing convenient and accessible water filter stations in heavily trafficked areas of campus such as in Benson, Malley Fitness Center, and all residence halls. Conner's work is receiving strong recognition from the community and he's proud that the water filling stations are getting good use and actually working to reduce the amount of plastic water bottles on campus.

    Being creative and being sustainable could be two very distinct and separate qualities. Campus Ministry's Director of Ecumenical and Interfaith Ministries Reverend Aimee Moiso proves this assumption wrong. Recently highlighted at a Human Resources workshop about repurposing, Moiso illustrated how her crafts made from reused and salvaged materials can save money and conserve resources.
