What Can I Do?

Monday, Feb. 7, 2011

Reduce your food miles this Valentines Day by making reservations at a restaurant that specializes in local and organic food. Or cook your own meal with local produce from a farmers market.

25 percent of all seasonal cards are Valentines. Consider buying cards made from recycled or tree-free paper. Or send an e-card. Sites like someecards.com have hilarious valentines greetings for nearly everyone on the list.

If you're planning on giving a special lady in your life jewelry, consider shopping at an antique store, where unexpected treasures are common. Diamonds are diamonds even if they're reused.

Give your sweetie a box of Fair Trade chocolate this year to show your respect for the farmers and workers who make it.
