Sustainability Update

A monthly update from the Center for Sustainability for the Santa Clara University community.

  •  Students define, measure community resources

    Students apply their GIS skills on class projects exploring issues like food security in San Jose by measuring the distribution of liquor stores vs. healthier food resources (e.g., farmers' markets or supermarkets). Two students from last fall's class of GIS got jobs after graduation based off of their GIS skills.

    Marquita spearheads the linen drive, inviting staff, faculty, and students to donate their linens to local shelters at the end of the year.
    Marquita Coe, Office of Registrar, serves as co-chair of the Staff Senate's community service committee. Through this role and as a volunteer working with the Ignatian Center, Marquita has helped plan and promote various projects with local campus and community organizations.

    Members of the University community gathered together to celebrate the Locatelli Center's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) award on November 28th. The building's LEED Gold plaque is displayed at the first floor entrance of the building. This is the first LEED certification for SCU.
