Low voter turnout in the United States calls into question the fundamental nature of our democracy. Young people today are often said to be politically disconnected and disinclined to vote. In the face of such realities, Professor Scott LaBarge of SCU's Department of Philosophy will assess the obligation to vote.

What Can I Do?

Reduce: Saving the world, one flush at a time!

toilet flush nozzle

New dual flush nozzles have been installed for trial use in the ladies restroom at Pat Malley Fitness and Recreation Center. Dual flush handles allow users to choose the amount of water needed for each toilet visit: pull up for liquid waste; push down for solid waste.

A "liquid waste" or "Number 1" flush uses 1/3 less water than a typical flush. Test them out, and let us know what you think! E-mail lcromwell@scu.edu with feedback, or leave a comment in Malley Center's Suggestion Box.

Reuse: Use SCU Classifieds

Foster re-use of materials by listing items and responding to others' posts on SCU Classifieds. Not only will you reduce items going to the landfill, but you may also save time and money.

Recycle: Spread the word, expanded recycling program

recycling posterPlease help us inform the campus community about the University's expanded recycling program. Encourage your colleagues and friends to reduce their consumption of materials, reuse what they can, and recycle the rest. Unsure of what you can recycle? Visit Recycling in Residence Halls or Recycling in Campus Offices and download a jpeg 8.5 by 11 inch poster.

Respect: Get ready for Campus Sustainability Week!

Join us as we celebrate the University's achievements in sustainability. Attend events throughout the week of October 20 through October 24! Look for more information in October's Sustainability Update.
