Dear Alumni and Friends,

In this edition of our department newsletter, we are happy to share some exciting news about our Sociology program.  In particular, I would like to highlight the hiring of two new assistant professors who joined us last September, Drs. Molly King and Di Di.  Although they have been in residence with us for just a few months, they are already making many contributions to our faculty through their service, scholarship, and teaching.  Another newsworthy feature is the profile of our colleague Dr. Alma Garcia. Alma has dedicated her entire professional career after receiving her doctorate from Harvard to servicing our university and students. This quarter Alma is teaching a new course on the sociology of sports which is already very popular with students (read more below). I am also happy to mention our major continues to grow. This year we started with 11 more majors and minors than last academic year, during the quarter we have successfully recruited about 5 more, and in January we will welcome two new transfer students. This phenomenal growth is all due to the dedication and effectiveness of our entire faculty in and out of the classroom. Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate Dr. Katia Moles for digitizing and editing our newsletter over the past year and a half. As always, we'll be delighted to host any of you next time you visit the university or if you wish to contact us. Thank you for your support.
