Santa Clara University, Facilities

The Facilities Department supports the mission of Santa Clara University by coordinating and accomplishing the planning, design, creation, operation, and maintenance of a quality physical environment that fosters excellence in teaching, learning, scholarship and administration. The department enlisted the help of Engr110 students to conduct several feasibility studies as part of a campus-wide initiative to reduce energy usage and investigate alternative energy technologies.

  • This project involved a study to determine the optimum placement of a solar thermal cell array to help heat the SCU pool...

  • The students saw biodiesel as a great resource to Santa Clara University and as it is a cost-effective, environmentally friendly alternative source of fuel...

  • Students conducted a feasibility study on the use of solar energy to heat the pool of the Sullivan Aquatic Center.

  • Students conducted research on wind turbines to determine if it would be feasible to use wind power (i.e. a windmill) to supplement the university’s power needs.
