Power Systems and Sustainable Energy

The Master's Program in Power Systems and Sustainable Energy (PS&SE) at Santa Clara University is a two-year program targeted at students with an engineering or science background who want to pursue a career in the power and energy industry, government, national research laboratories, or academia.

Students in this program learn about the basics of power grid, the technical challenges of a grid with high penetration of renewable energies, the existing policy, and the pricing of the grid, while also learning the rudiments of project management—a necessary tool in this field. More specifically, through coursework and research activities, the program provides scientific foundations in the following areas:

  • Fundamentals of power systems
  • Different types of renewable energies
  • Storage systems
  • Public policy
  • Economics of energy

Program Details

  • Open University (Limit 16 units, non-degree program, option to apply to M.S. degree)
  • Certificate (16 required units for completion, see program advisor units may be transferred to M.S. degree program)
  • Master's Degree (46 required units for completion)
