Portfolios and Professional Websites
Create a portfolio or professional website to showcase your projects and become a more competitive candidate for internships or full time roles. Portfolios can be especially useful for applicants in creative industries, technical fields, or roles that demand strong communication and writing skills.
Tips for Creating a Great Portfolio:
Think through the purpose of your portfolio: Who is your intended Audience? Are you using your portfolio for specific types of jobs or internships? Ultimately, your portfolio or website will supplement and enhance your job/internship applications and is part of your professional brand.
Curate Your Selections: Your portfolio should demonstrate your best and completed work.
Follow Application Instructions: Some employers may require a specific type of portfolio or simply ask that you submit samples of your work through an application upload process.
Where can I link my portfolio or website?
- Add to your resume in your contact information section OR in a separate section such as “Additional Information”.
- Add to your LinkedIn in your Contact Information section and your “About” section.
- Some applications will allow you to link to a “Personal URL”. This is a great place to link your portfolio.
- Google your full name: What comes up? Is your portfolio searchable?
