Please note that the Basic Needs Program is not an emergency housing resource. The Basic Needs Program operates within regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 am - 5 pm. For questions related to room & board on campus or loan assistance, please contact the SCU financial aid office. If you are unsafe or experiencing an emergency, please call 911.
Emergency Housing Resources
- 211 211 is a 24/7 hotline hosted by The United Way Bay Area. They connect individuals who are experiencing housing emergencies or housing insecurity to local programs. You can connect with support by calling 2-1-1 or by texting your zip code to 898211. To explore their housing support options, please click here.
- Here4You Hotline The Here4You Hotline, 408-385-2400, is sponsored by the Bill Wilson Center and helps connect individuals to emergency housing services within Santa Clara County. The hotline is open everyday of the week between the hours of 9 am - 7 pm. To learn more, please click here.
- Emergency Assistance Network The Emergency Assistance Network (EAN) lists county resources according to zip code that can provide rent payment assistance, safety deposit support and information about subsidized housing options. Please click here for contact information according to zip code.
- Bill Wilson Drop In Center For unhoused individuals ages 18-24, the Bill Wilson Center hosts a drop in center where they provide free meals, support services, phones, computers, showers and washer/dryer facilities. There is also staff available to help connect drop in guests to overnight and longer term housing options. The drop in center is located at 692 S. 2nd St. San Jose, CA, 95112. - Safe Parking Program The Rotating Safe Car Park (RSCP) provides safe parking for at least one month and up to three months per calendar year while more permanent housing options are explored. They require valid vehicle registration, insurance, ID for the primary driver and a completion of a pre-screening to participate in the program. Transitional Housing Support
- Discounted Hotel Stays In partnership with Wyndham hotels, students can utilize discounted short term and extended stays at any Wyndham Hotel location. The Basic Needs Program can connect students to further discounted rates at the local Super 8 and La Quinta Inn & Suites to provide support through unexpected housing transitions.
- Office of Supportive Housing In partnership with the Santa Clara County Office of Supportive Housing, the Basic Needs team can connect students who are at risk of losing their housing within the next 14 days to once in a lifetime financial aid of up to $2,000. To qualify, students must be residents of Santa Clara County with a current lease and proof of income for at least two months that meets program requirements and must be seeking assistance due to notice of eviction, changes in ability to afford housing/utilities or lack of safety in the home. - Housing Industry Foundation’s (HIF) Emergency Housing Fund (EHF) For individuals living in the Santa Clara, Alameda or San Mateo areas, the Emergency Housing Fund (EHF) is a private fund that can provide once in a lifetime financial aid of up to $2,500 to support current rent, back rent or utility costs. - Off Campus Living For students who are preparing to transition from on campus living to off campus living, the Off Campus Living team can provide further information about finding low cost apartment options, understanding lease agreements and planning for the transition. - The Ivancovich Family Student Life Fund The Ivancovich Family Student Life Fund provides critical and flexible funding to support SCU students with the greatest need. These grants have no repayment obligation. The fund provides temporary, one-time funding for students to address an unexpected, unforeseen, or unavoidable emergency expense.
