The field of equity compensation requires the expertise of a variety of professions (e.g. legal, accounting, tax, compensation) in order to function properly. The Certified Equity Professional Institute (CEPI) draws on an array of expertise in order to ensure that the certification program is relevant and keeps pace in the ever changing world of equity compensation. Three separate advisory bodies - the Advisory Board, the Certification Council, and the Curriculum Committee - are used to chart the strategic direction and oversee the curriculum and test development processes, thereby achieving both the required relevance and accuracy.
Since 1989 the CEPI has served as the equity compensation industry's educational standard, providing thousands of our alumni with the knowledge and authority to distinguish themselves as true equity professionals. Advisory Board members play an essential role in charting the Institute's strategic direction and overseeing the curriculum and test development processes.
The Certification Council is the final authority over the content of the exams that are administered. Each of the three exams (Levels I, II, III) are scrutinized by the Certification Council before each administration to ensure that the exam items are current, accurate, fair and valid. Any scoring issues identified after the exam administration are addressed by the Certification Council.

The role of the Curriculum Committee is critical to the CEPI. Equity compensation administration is a dynamic and ever-changing field. The curriculum is examined annually by this group and changed to reflect changing laws, rules and policies. These subject-matter experts review and update test specifications, reference materials, and course syllabi. Committee members are well versed in several functional areas of the field.
