Vehicle Purchases

University Purchasing can help facilitate your department in sourcing a new or pre-owned vehicle by putting out an official request for bids/proposals and negotiating the sales price. To begin the process, please provide the following information to Purchasing@scu.edu:

  1. Overall budget
  2. Ideal vehicle model or specs
  3. Use case for vehicle, functional, and technical requirements

Written approval of the purchase and the budget by both the Vice President for Finance and Administration and the University Budget Director. Approval is needed BEFORE the procurement process begins.

A Purchasing team member will reach out to you to coordinate a kickoff meeting. Please note that:

  1. There are other costs associated with purchasing a vehicle, such as sales tax and registration with the DMV. Please be sure that you budget for these costs that may not be explicitly known during the sourcing process.
  2. As part of our 2030 Sustainable SCU: Leading Through Laudato Si’ plan, all new university vehicles will be either partially or fully electrified. 
  3. SCU Parking & Transportation must be informed if intending to purchase a golf cart, as there are designated routes on the SCU campus where golf carts can be driven through.
