What Is a Covered Program?
A Covered Program is an SCU-sponsored or SCU-operated program, activity, or event in which:
- Minors are physically present, and
- SCU students, faculty, staff, or volunteers are responsible for their care, supervision, guidance, or oversight, and
- The activity falls within the scope of the University's Policy on the Safety of Minors in University Programs and Activities.
If all three apply to your program, it is a Covered Program and must be registered. Continue to Registering a Covered Program to learn your responsibilities and get started.
Covered Program Examples
Examples of Covered Programs include:
- SCU summer camps
- Research involving minors
- Tutoring
- Mentoring
- Clinics
- Recurring outreach programs
- Multi-day youth programs
Excluded / Exempt Programs / Activities
These activities are not covered under the policy, given they are single, very short-term activities versus full programs:
- One-time campus tours
- Guest lectures
- Single-day outreach
- Events where parents remain responsible
- Facility rentals by outside organizations
University courses where minors are enrolled as college students are not registered as Covered Programs. However, other University policies and protections continue to apply.
