As a high school senior, I heavily relied on Bronco Exchange in order to meet new people, attend informational events, and ask questions. Whether you’re still unsure about where you want to spend the next four years, or are sure that SCU is your new home, Bronco Exchange can provide you with the resources you need!

The Breakdown:

Home Page:

When you first log in to BE (Bronco Exchange), you’ll see your profile on the left-hand side. Start by filling out your profile information with as much detail as possible, because this is a great first step to becoming a part of the community. Remember that you only need to fill out the information you feel comfortable sharing too.

Ambassadors:

In the next tab, you’ll find a list of students, faculty, and administrators who are available to answer all of your questions. Similar to LinkedIn, you can connect with any one of your choices and chat with them. While I was trying to decide between two different potential minors, I reached out to an ambassador who had one of the minors I was leaning towards and asked her about her experience with it. She was very honest about her experience and talking to her made me all the more positive that it was a minor I wanted to pursue. Regardless of how minor a question may seem to you, students and faculty are always open to answering your questions.

Admission Counselors:

The next tab is a great way to communicate with Admission Counselors. If you ever happen to have any specific questions about your personal application, this is a good place to start. Keep in mind that our Admission Counselors get hundreds of emails a day, so always double-check if there’s a specific email address on our website that can take care of your issue/question.

Groups:

For admitted students, this tab is one of the many ways you can meet new people on BE. There are over 25 groups to choose from based on your admission status (ex. Honors student, LEAD Scholar, etc.), where you are from (Bay Area, Midwest, etc.) and many more. You can meet people who are part of your personal niche and connect with upperclassmen who have experience with what you will soon become a part of.

Forum:

This tab is a great place to ask questions and have counselors, students, or faculty answer your questions. You can post your questions anonymously if you prefer and interact with other questions that may be of interest to you by upvoting or downvoting them. If you also happen to be in the same situation as someone else and know the answer to their question, feel free to help out your peers!

Resources:

This tab simply gives you access to the academic calendar and class schedules for your reference.

Events:

Last but definitely not least is my favorite tab, events. This is where you can get an inside look into what it’s like being a Bronco from Broncos. We host numerous events throughout the admissions cycle to help prospective students understand what it means to be a student here on a holistic level. Some examples of events are day in the life’s, game nights, informational sessions about living on campus/research/finding careers, mock classes, and more. This is a chance for you to meet current students passionate about sharing their experiences, as well as other perspectives like yourself. All of our events are also held virtually on Zoom, making it easy to attend from wherever you are in the world.

My Experience:

I signed up for Bronco Exchange before I committed to SCU, and it only made my decision to attend easier. As an incoming business major, I was curious about what made this business school better than the others I was considering. I attended an event hosted by Leavey Ambassadors and one story changed my perspective on the school. An ambassador mentioned that when she took Business 70 (Contemporary Business Issues) her professor made them do an interesting exercise. He had them write out the top five companies they would like to work/get internships at on a piece of paper and collected them at the end of class. When everyone walked in the following day, he handed these notes back to everyone with business cards attached to them. This professor had taken the time to collect contact information from all of his connections in order to provide his students with the required network to get their dream job. This showed me how passionate professors were about helping their students outside the classroom as well as the benefits of going to a small, community-oriented university.

Overall, Bronco Exchange was a great resource for me as a high school senior and I continue to attend events I’m curious about from time to time. Whether you’re committed, still deciding, or thinking of applying to SCU, I highly recommend using this as a resource!
