From The Director:
"In the minds of today's college students, getting a better job continues to be the most prevalent reason to go to college." (UCLA Higher Education Research Institute, 2012) This statement comes from a nationwide survey of incoming freshmen during the Fall of 2012, which means that this group of students is now entering senior year in college. Career Center staff are acutely aware of the pressure, and the accompanying anxiety, that these students feel to find a job; however, as career development professionals, we are also aware of another aspect of the job search that few students articulate and that is that people want to find work with meaning and purpose.
At the Career Center, we work intentionally with students to support them in their stated need of finding internships and jobs and we also guide them to find work that is a good fit for them, work that will allow them to feel fulfilled. We provide assessments and career coaching that help give students insight into their growing sense of self and then help them integrate that with their skills and interest as they look for experience in the form of fellowships, internships, or full-time jobs. At the Career Center, we take heart from Ignatius’ exhortation to “go forth and set the world on fire” and we believe that the flame is ignited when students pair their skills with work that has meaning for them.

Our Services & Signature Programs
Elspeth has extensive experience working in Silicon Valley, first as an executive, then as a consultant providing leadership development, executive coaching, and career consulting to companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Cisco, and Agilent. Her blend of corporate experience and counseling training allows her to understand the support needed for students in recognizing and articulating their strengths as they enter the workforce as well as finding satisfaction in making a meaningful contribution once there. Elspeth is a frequent conference presenter and her co-authored article “Vocation at Work” speaks to the Jesuit values that inspire her. (Conversations magazine, Fall 2014). Elspeth has a B.A. in English and French and M.A. in Counseling.
Rose brings over 10 years of experience ranging from overseeing the recruitment and talent acquisition process within HR, coordinating employment and workforce development initiatives, and managing a global executive education program for rising senior leaders within Silicon Valley tech and fortune 500 companies. Additionally, she has significant global work, study, and service-learning experience in Southern Africa, South America, and Europe. Rose brings her passion for developing people to the Career Center where she enjoys helping students discover and then transform their unique talents and interests into a career they will love. Her inspiration in work comes from developing innovative career and professional education initiatives to help SCU students launch into the dynamic and ever-changing 21st century world of work. Rose has her BA degree in Modern Literary Studies and a MA in Counseling Education, Career Development.
Assistant Director, Employer Relations
Courtney brings over twenty years of experience handling customer service, sales, marketing, promotions, and account management. As the Assistant Director for Employer Relations, Courtney manages the on-campus interview program and other employer-related events. Her understanding of the corporate environment and the essential requirements of employers, balanced with her insight into the needs of students as they navigate initial career choices, provide the foundation of her passion to support both SCU students and employers. Her inspiration in work comes from the satisfaction of connecting employers with our students and facilitating strong, ongoing, relationships with companies in Silicon Valley and beyond. Courtney has her BA degree in English from Loyola Marymount University.

Assistant Director, Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences
Jennifer has over 10 years of experience in higher education and has worked for more than three years as a career counselor for students studying Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Santa Clara. In this role, she helps students explore and identify their interests and strengths and develop a plan to pursue meaningful work. Santa Clara is a big part of Jennifer’s history, as she is an alum and has worked on campus since 2005, previously serving as the Business Manager in Auxiliary Services before taking on her role in the Career Center. Her work is inspired by her own Santa Clara experience and she loves helping SCU students explore the intersection between their passions, talents, and the needs of the world to discover meaningful opportunities. Jennifer has a BS degree in Psychology with minors in Sociology and Italian and an MA in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Career Development from Santa Clara University.
Assistant Director, Experiential Learning & Sciences
Moira brings to the Career Center nearly 10 years of experience working in career development in higher education, providing career counseling to students of all majors, as well as developing programs and events to facilitate professional development and connection to employers. In addition, Moira has extensive experience consulting with Silicon Valley employers on topics including on-campus recruitment, branding and internship development. Prior to her work in career development, Moira held a variety of human resources roles in both corporate and educational settings. Moira is passionate about preparing students for the world of work. Her inspiration for her work comes from creating programs and resources that generate moments of personal and professional discovery for students in their career journey. Moira has her BA degree in Psychology and an MA in Counseling Psychology with a Career Development Emphasis.
Assistant Director, Graduate Programs
Amy moved to Silicon Valley over 17 years ago from the Midwest. Initially working in human resources as the recruiter and coordinator of an internship program of over 300 students for a large semiconductor company, she received invaluable insight into high tech and hiring practices. However, her desire to work with students more directly and assist them in their career development drove her back to the university setting. Now, after a few years off to raise her children, Amy is excited and thankful to be back at SCU working on a part-time basis and assisting the graduate populations in Engineering, Counseling Psychology, and Education. Amy has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Counseling and Development from Purdue University.

Assistant Director, University Alumni
Dean has over a decade of business experience, including an overseas assignment in China for a Fortune 500 company and 7 years as an executive with a successful Silicon Valley start up. Throughout his varied experiences, his greatest source of joy has come from the opportunities to coach and mentor others, including students and alumni in his current role as the Alumni Counselor at Santa Clara University. Dean has a BA in Psychology, an MBA, and a MA in Counseling Psychology.
