Lent and Passover 2017
An alignment of traditions
This year there is an alignment between the Roman and Orthodox calendars, which means that Lent, Holy Week, and Easter coincide for all traditions following those calendars. Additionally, Jewish Passover and Christian Holy Week happen at the same time. This gives us a special opportunity to have experiences across religious traditions.
There is an annual Passover Seder that Campus Ministry co-sponsors with the Jewish Student Union and Hillel of Silicon Valley. Everyone is welcome to attend. The Seder is both a time for Jews to observe Passover and for others to learn about the traditions and the stories associated with it.
The Paschal Triduum, observed from Thursday evening to Sunday evening, is one of the most sacred times in the Roman Catholic church. We have services on campus each of those days and anyone is welcome to attend. Pro Tip #1: Holy Thursday involves voluntary footwashing. For background on this, see this Bible passage. Pro Tip #2: The Easter Vigil (Saturday evening) is a very long (and beautiful) service. Don't expect it to be done in an hour!
See the campus calendar for information on events connected to Holy Week and Passover.
