Records Access Policy

Santa Clara University permits public access to its archives within the context of respect for individual privacy, administrative confidentiality, and the integrity of the records. It reserves the right to close all or any portion of its records to researchers.

At the time of transfer of University files to the Department of Archives and Special Collections, the administrator of the transferring office may specify a date for opening the files, or portions of them, to researchers. If no date is specified for opening, the files may be opened to researchers 20 years from the date of their transfer. The University Archivist may recommend to the transferring office a specific date for opening the files.

The archival files of any office may be opened to a qualified researcher by the administrator of that office or his/her designee at any time.

Archival collections may be used by researchers only in the Norman F. Martin S.J. Reading Room. Duplication of materials may be requested for the established fees for duplication services.
