PC Replacement Program (PCR)

The PC Replacement Program annually replaces one quarter of those systems in the program, targeting the most underpowered systems first.  We have sent an email to the department chairs/heads requesting they identify the computers in their department eligible for replacement via our web-based form.

The 2023-2024 PC Replacement Program targets the Dell and Apple computers with a PC Replacement Program asset tag (blue tags) beginning with "1900xxx". We deploy lab machines typically during the summer (August/September) and Faculty/Staff machines are typically deployed during the Fall quarter (after the first two weeks of classes are complete).

All 2023-2024 PC Replacement Program laptops (both Dell and Apple) will have encryption turned on to encrypt all data on the laptop.

In order to maximize PC Replacement funds, we have negotiated special pricing with Dell and Apple for all of the PC Replacement (PCR) system configurations, including laptops, and are unable to alter the configurations. The uplifts in costs to departments reflects the additional cost over our budget per machine.

The 2023-2024 PC Replacement Program deployment schedule will be available in late summer 2023.

In order for a machine to be eligible for PC Replacement, it must be complete (have all components in working order), in working order, in use and have the eligible PC Replacement Property tag on the CPU and display. Machines with PC Replacement property tags starting with "18" and older are no longer eligible for PC Replacement.

Santa Clara University applies an asset tag to all University owned computers including computers not on the PC Replacement Program.  Asset tags for computers not on the PC Replacement Program are white and the asset tag numbers begin with a letter, then a dash ('-'), followed by five numbers.  For example, D-00967 or L-00669.  Below are two representative examples of the asset tags on computers not on the PC Replacement Program.  Computers not on the PC Replacement Program are not eligible for replacement by the program.
