The Wellness Center: Nurturing Holistic Well-Being for Students
At Santa Clara University, prioritizing the well-being of your student is important to us. The Wellness Center embodies this commitment, reflecting the university's dedication to fostering holistic health. Grounded in evidence-based approaches, the center empowers students to make informed choices and cultivate self-efficacy across various dimensions of their lives, including intellectual, spiritual, social, physical, and emotional well-being.
Three student groups anchor our wellness initiatives:
- Peer Health Educators: Dedicated to delivering programs and events about various health and wellness topics for SCU students.
- Violence Prevention Educators: Leading efforts to raise awareness about dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and other forms of interpersonal violence, and providing tools for violence prevention and intervention at SCU.
- Broncos in Recovery: Providing a supportive community for students in recovery and those seeking it.
Aligned with the Jesuit principle of "Cura Personalis," which emphasizes caring for the whole person, the Wellness Center offers many resources. Whether students seek self-care strategies, mentorship, or opportunities for peer connection, the center serves as one location for holistic development.
Therapists in Residence: Bringing Additional Support to Students Living on Campus
|
In collaboration with the Residence Life Office, the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team is pleased to announce the presence of four licensed therapists living among our first and second-year students in the residence halls. These therapists serve as confidential resources, catering to the mental health needs of undergraduate students residing on campus. Their proximity to residential students allows them to offer support where students feel the most comfortable.
Additional Consultation Hours: Undergraduate students residing on-campus can schedule free, confidential, in-person meetings through the Cowell Health Portal or by emailing their chosen Therapist in Residence (TIR). These sessions can be scheduled on the same day, the next day, or within the same week (Monday - Friday) and last 45 minutes. The TIRs conduct these sessions in their offices located within the residential communities. During these non-crisis consultations, students can address immediate concerns and receive referrals to additional resources.
Programming: The Therapists in Residence develop and lead workshops that equip students with practical skills and strategies for enhancing their mental well-being. |
Unlocking Summer Success: Reasons to Enroll in SCU's Summer Courses!
Summer courses can offer a range of benefits beyond just academic progress. Here are some reasons why your student should consider enrolling:
- Cost Savings: With a 25% discount on per-unit tuition, summer courses offer a more affordable option for students looking to fulfill their academic requirements.
- Financial Assistance: The availability of 171 grants provides additional financial support to students.
- Flexibility: With six different sessions available, students have the flexibility to choose courses that fit their schedules.
- Catch Up or Get Ahead: Summer courses allow students to catch up on missed credits or get ahead in their academic journey. Students can take a course or two that will fulfill core, major, or minor requirements.
- Ideal Weather and Environment: Santa Clara and its neighboring areas offer a beautiful setting for summer study. Registering for a smaller unit load allows students more time to explore Santa Clara and its surroundings. From concerts to county fairs to outdoor adventures, there's plenty to discover beyond the classroom.
For more detailed information, students can refer to the email from the Director of Summer Sessions, Allyson Morris, or visit the Summer Session website.

Update on SCU's COVID-19 Vaccination Policy
On the morning of April 2, 2024, students, staff, and faculty received an email from the Office of the Provost regarding a change in the Covid-19 vaccination requirement for students.
Previous protocol mandated that “all Santa Clara University students, faculty, and staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Vaccinated was defined as the COVID-19 primary series plus a booster OR one dose of the bivalent/updated vaccine.”
Effective April 2, 2024, the University’s COVID-19 vaccination policy strongly recommends that all undergraduate and graduate students be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
Some protocols from the original policy remain in place to protect faculty members who may be at a higher risk for severe COVID-19. While these protocols apply to only a small minority of faculty, they are nonetheless crucial.
For further details, please refer to the full email from the Office of the Provost.
Many events are taking place at SCU for students to enjoy! From engaging talks to entertaining performances, and everything in between, there's something for everyone. Explore some of the events, including those I mention below, on the SCU Events Page!
