The mission of Student Health, Counseling, and Well-Being (SHCWB) is to provide comprehensive, compassionate, and integrated health and wellness services that honor and reflect the diversity of the Santa Clara University student community. Grounded in the mission of Santa Clara University and the Division of Student Life, we are dedicated to caring for the whole person through high-quality medical and psychological care, inclusive health education, prevention, and outreach. By centering student learning and development, we strive to help students achieve optimal health, build lifelong wellness habits, and foster personal growth—empowering them to succeed academically and beyond.
Student Health, Counseling, and Well-Being is composed of three core units:
- Student Medical Services (SMS): Delivers primary and specialty care, disease prevention, and health education to help students maintain an optimum level of physical health and to guide them in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
- Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS): Provides therapeutic services to support student well-being through individual, couples, crisis, and group therapy while also providing consultation and mental health outreach for the campus community. CAPS services promote evidence based treatments for a wide range of mental health conditions.
- The Wellness Center: Provides leadership for health promotion services at SCU; including substance use education, the promotion of healthy interpersonal relationships, and self-care through the 8 Dimensions of Well-being Model. Specialized support is also offered for student survivors of interpersonal harm and students in recovery.
Our multidisciplinary team includes medical providers, mental health clinicians, educators, trainees, peer leaders, and administrative professionals who work collaboratively to ensure students receive seamless, person-centered care.
