Minimum Requirements

Deadline August 31st, 2024
  1. Record video horizontally.
  2. Set the resolution to 4K (or 1080P if the highest option).
  3. Video length: 1-3 minutes.
  4. Include 2-3 candid photos.
  5. File name format:
    • Video: lastnameFirstname.mp4
    • Photo: lastnameFirstname.jpeg

Find a quiet place to film

  • This might seem obvious, but your workplace or out in public can be noisy environments and will make it difficult to hear the sound of your voice on the video.
  • Loud fans, air conditioners, or running water will also interfere with your sound quality.

Make sure your phone has enough storage space

  • You can check this in your settings (Settings→General→iPhone Storage).
  • You can choose to delete large files from there.

Turn off notifications

  • Turn on Do Not Disturb mode before you start filming.
  • Notifications will show up on your video if they are not turned off.

Use a tripod or sturdy surface

  • And if you don’t have a tripod, you can prop the phone up on a counter or table.
  • Holding your phone with both hands will work, but the video may be shaky.

Lighting

  • Find a room or location with plenty of natural light.
  • Avoid lights directly over your head because they cause dark circles around your eyes.
    • Your light should be in front of you.
  • Avoid having a window or light source behind you.
    • The light should shine on what you want the audience to see

Use a microphone (if available)

  • Your voice should be directed at the phone’s mic/speaker so you get the best quality sound.

Film horizontally (phone on its Side)

  • Filming sideways allows the video to be used on more platforms

Stand close to your phone

  • What we want to see is your head and shoulders.
    • Physically moving closer to the phone helps with that.
  • Don't use the zoom capability.
    • Instead, physically move your filming setup closer to your subject to eliminate the need to zoom in.

Lock your focus and exposure

  • Before you press record, hold down your finger on the subject of your video until a yellow box appears around the person or object and the words "AE/AF Lock" appear.

Your settings

  • See this YouTube video
    • Resolution 4K, Frame Rate 24 fps.
  • Additional videos can be found below.

Clean your lens

  • Make sure your lens is clear. If it’s not, carefully clean it with a microfiber cloth.
